they can look like that (above) or this (below) your pick :)
I have a new passion, and i owe it to Nicks Mom Connie. She is my mentor on being physically active and eating healthy. This year she introduced me to "green smoothies". At first i thought yuck, now i am hooked, (mine are not that green yet) a little obsessed with healthy eating (almost to a point of never wanting a hot dog again) but completely realizing what i was putting into my body and why i was feeling certain ways.
So, my biggest problem is getting my kids (picky kids) to eat healthy. It is so hard, so what sold me on this is Why would anyone NOT give their kids a smoothie that gets all the veggies they need down everyday???
So i want to introduce my little tricks to making it easier and introduce the book that has changed my life.
It is called... "The Green Smoothies Diet"
NO.... I am not on a diet. dont freak out. it is not a diet if you are still eating everything with it. It is a way to be healthy.
Go to www.greensmoothiegirl.com and buy the best book ever!!! or call me and borrow mine. It is AWESOME and will change the way you think about food!! I promise!!
So as soon as i was addicted to having so many "green smoothies" everyday, i wondered how to make it easier so i dont have to get all the stuff out everytime, make a big mess then have to put it all away. too much effort for a little smoothie twice a day. So.... this is what i have done.
First off, i started out putting the following in my smoothies. Spinach (very mild, cant taste it when mixed with berries, fresh strawberries, frozen mixed berries, frozen peaches, 100% OJ concentrate, bananas, ice and water.
I now buy all the stuff and decided to put it in baggies so i can just unthaw for 1 min and toss into the blender. add a little water, blend and toss baggy in trash.... so SIMPLE and easy!! just takes an hour at the start of the week to get baggies ready for over a doz smoothies!!! I love it!!
(my baggies contain the perfect mix for me... 3 spoonfuls of concentrate first, handful sliced strawberries, two large sliced bananas, frozen mixed berries, a good amount and 3 large handfuls of spinach. that is a good kid mix. I do more spinach for me. makes it a little greener look. you can also throw in whole strawberries with the leafs still on some yogurt or kifer, celery, all sorts of different greens.
so this is how much spinach is in ONE bag yes one. 3 large handfuls. it smashes up very easy!! talk about good for you. The book also gives many ideas about greens to put in. (and all sorts of recipes and different veggies i have never even heard of)
This is what it looks like after just simply dumping in a bag then add some water and a little ice to the texture you want it!!
Ta Da...... the kids arent scared cuz its not even green, (the mixed frozen berries from costco do wonders to making it pretty. I am trying to add more greens to mine everyday little by little, but start out with this... I promise if you try it you will feel better, and better about getting your kids more nutritious!!! YEAH!!
THIS book is like my new bible for health. I promise you will love it, or go to her website and just check out some of her clips on there and info. so worth your time. www.greensmoothiegirl.com
Now i am off to the new Organic Food store in town to pick up some stuff i have never heard of... yeah and get it into my smoothies.
and... my next goal for our family....Goodbye White bread (so bad for you) anyone got any GREAT homeade wheat bread recipes?
